Here comes the recipe for perfect steamed rice. Steaming rice is one of the healthier ways to cook this food because this prevents the loss of water-soluble nutrients into the cooking water and doesn't require any added fat.

  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Salt according to taste ( approx. 1 tsp )
  • 1 ½ - 2 cup water or according to need
Instructions ( 1 cup = 250 ml, 1 tbsp = 15 ml, 1 tsp = 5 ml)
  1. Wash the rice and soak for 30 min.
  2. Drain the water and keep aside.
  3. Boil the water in a pot.
  4. When water starts to boil, add soaked rice, salt and ghee / oil.
  5. Cover the lid and cook on slow flame. Stir in between.
  6. Another way, combine all in a pressure cooker and pressure cook for 2 – 3 whistles.
  7. If you pressure cook the rice then use only 1 ½ cup of water, otherwise rice will get sticky.
  8. Serve hot with rajma, dal fry or pulses of your choice.
You can add few drops of lemon juice for white rice.
