Suji Appe is an instant south Indian breakfast recipe prepared with semolina, curd, veggies, and Spices.

Ingredients
  • Tomatoes - 2-3, chopped
  • Onion - 1, chopped
  • Dry red chili - 2-4, as per liking
  • Peanuts - ¼ cup, optional
  • Tamarind - 1 small piece
  • Fresh coconut - ¼ cup
  • Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - ½ tsp, optional
  • Salt - ½ tsp, as per taste
  • For tampering :
  • Oil/Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - ½ tsp
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 4-5 leaves
  • Hing - a pinch
Instructions ( 1 cup = 250 ml, 1 tbsp = 15 ml, 1 tsp = 5 ml)
  1. In a pan, add oil.
  2. Add mustard seeds.
  3. When they start to splutter, add peanuts, dry red chili, and curry leaves.
  4. Fry until peanuts are cooked.
  5. Add chopped onion.
  6. Cook until onion turns translucent.
  7. Add chopped tomatoes.
  8. Mix well. Cover and cook until tomatoes turn soft and mashy.
  9. Add salt, turmeric powder, tamarind, and chopped coconut.
  10. Cook for a min or so.
  11. Turn off the flame.
  12. Let it cool down.
  13. When cooled down completely, grind it and make a thick chutney.
  14. Do not add water while grinding in a mixer.
  15. In a tadka pan add oil / ghee.
  16. Add mustard seeds.
  17. Add urad dal and curry leaves.
  18. Add hing a pinch.
  19. Pour the tadka on chutney.
  20. Serve the fresh tomato onion chutney along with Suji Appe, Rava Uttapam, Oats onion uttapam, Idli, dosa, Moong dal dosa, etc.
