Ingredients
  • 2-3 medium size potatoes ( peeled and diced )
  • ¾ cup matar / green peas ( fresh or frozen )
  • ½ cup crushed onion ( 2 medium size onion )
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes (3 medium size tomatoes )
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds ( jeera )
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tsp red chili powder / kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp fresh cream
  • Salt according to taste ( approx 1 tsp )
  • 1 cup water
  • 2-3 tbsp coriander ( fine chopped )
Instructions ( 1 cup = 250 ml, 1 tbsp = 15 ml, 1 tsp = 5 ml)
  1. Make a smooth paste of onion, garlic, ginger and green chili in grinder. If require add 1 or 2 tbsp water.
  2. Make a smooth paste of tomato without adding water in grinder.
  3. Heat oil in pressure cooker or heavy bottom non stick pan.
  4. First crackle the cumin seeds. Then add asafetida and the ground paste of onion.
  5. Saute for 2-3 min. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder and salt.
  6. Sute for a minute. Add tomato paste. Cook for 2-3 minute.
  7. Stir and then add the peas and potatoes. Saute for a minute.
  8. Add water. Stir well. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
  9. You can also cook in pot. if you are cooking in pot then add some extra water and cook till potatoes and peas are cooked completely.
  10. At last add garam masala, chopped coriander and fresh cream. Mix well.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve aloo matar gravy hot with
    rice.
