Moraiyo | Farali Khichdi

I have used ghee/clarified butter, green chilies, curry leaves, and cumin seed for saute`, water/buttermilk for cooking Moriayo, and coriander leaves to garnish. You can add a few drops of lemon juice if you like a more tangy flavor. Adding ginger while saute` is optional for a more spicy and intense flavor. Make sure you use Sendha Namak (Himalayan Rock Salt) instead of regular salt if you are making this for your fast/vrat. If you like vegetables in it, then you can add Potato in cubes while cooking. Serve hot Moraiya Khichdi with Farali Kadhi and Rajgira Sheera on this Ekadasi.

In India, people generally eat Moraiyo as a meal during lunch or dinner. It is healthy, light as well as filling the stomach. Usually, people make Sama Khichdi on Hindu vrat/fasting days like Ekadashi, Navratri, Shivratri, Janmashtami Ganesh Chaturthi, and especially during Sama Pacham.
