Ingredients
  • 2 medium size potatoes
  • Oil for frying


    For Batter
  • 2 cup besan / gram flour
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • ¼ tsp carom seeds / ajwain
  • 2 tsp while sesame seeds / til
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Pinch of asafetida
  • Pinch of cooking soda
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt according to taste ( approx. 1 tsp )
  • ¾ cup water or according to need
Instructions ( 1 cup = 250 ml, 1 tbsp = 15 ml, 1 tsp = 5 ml)
  1. Combine all ingredients of batter in pan and make a thick smooth batter.
  2. Wash the potatoes and make a slices of it using potato chips of slice maker.
  3. Heat oil till medium hot in a pan or kadai for frying.
  4. Dip each potato slice into the batter and coat it evenly.
  5. Place the batter coated slice gently in the hot oil.
  6. You can add more potato slices according quantity of oil and size of kadai.
  7. Fry the potato fritters – batata bhajiya till golden and crisp.
  8. Drain potato fritters – batata bhajiya on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  9. Sprinkle chat masala on potato fritters – batata bhajiya . ( optional )
  10. Serve the potato fritters – batata bhajiya hot with green chutney, tamarind chutney, homemade tomato sauce, onion slices or fried chillies.
