Bananas, being nutrient rich are an important part of the diet, but raw bananas simply take food to another level. In Southern India, raw bananas are very popular and go into making some seriously scrumptious recipes. I have already shared different verities of raw banana chips. Kachhe kele ki sabji or raw banana sabji is a typical South Indian dish of raw bananas. Kachhe kele ki sabji is one which takes less time and fewer efforts to cook. The interesting part of Banana sabji is that if you ask somebody to taste it without revealing that it is a banana dish, they won’t even realize that they are eating a Banana.

Raw Banana Sabji

Step-by-Step Raw Banana Sabji ( Kachhe Kele ki Sabji ) Recipe :

Step 1 : Chop the onion, tomatoes, green chilies and keep it aside.

Step 2 : Make a paste of ginger and garlic in mortar pastel.

Step 3 : Peel the bananas and chop them.

Step 4 : Meanwhile heat the oil in pan.

Step 5 : Add mustard seeds when oil is medium hot.

Step 6 : When mustard seeds start to splutter, add urad dal.

Step 7 : When urad dal turns into pink color, add cumin seeds.

Step 8 : When cumin seeds start to sputter, add chopped green chilies and curry leaves.

Step 9 : Saute for a while, add chopped onion. When onion starts to turn into brown color, add ginger garlic paste.

Step 10 : Saute till raw aroma goes away. Add turmeric powder.

Step 11 : Mix well. Add chopped raw bananas or kachhe kele. Add salt and mix well.

Step 12 : Cook for 3 – 4 minutes. Add chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, coriander powder and garam masala.

Step 13 : Mix well. Cover the pan using plate as showing in picture. Keep some water into plate. Because of this bananas will get cooked easily and will not stick at bottom. Stir in between.

Step 14 : Cook till raw bananas get cooked completely. Serve warm kachhe kele ki sabji or Raw banana sabji with roti or parathas.

Ingredients
  • 4 - 5 raw banana
  • ½ cup onion ( 2 small onion )
  • ½ cup tomatoes fine chopped ( 1 medium tomato )

  • 5 - 6 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp oil

Instructions ( 1 cup = 250 ml, 1 tbsp = 15 ml, 1 tsp = 5 ml)
